The Cruise shows return around the world from Chanel to Louis Vuitton.
Cruise shows originated to initially cater to the fashion needs of the wealthiest clients who traveled to exotic locations or went on cruises during winter. Today, they aim to capture the attention of top international clients with bespoke novelties between one collection and another. Also known as Pre-Fall, they indeed preview the main lines. Today, Chanel will take the spotlight! The Chanel Cruise 2023 collection was previewed at the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel last May, but it made a stop at the private beach of the Hotel Faena in Miami, enchanting the audience with its theatrical set designed by director Baz Luhrmann and costume designer Catherine Martin. The inspiration for this collection merges different worlds such as motor racing, tennis, the Monte Carlo ballet, the casino, and the Riviera, giving life to elegant and refined silhouettes. Among the standout pieces, racing pilot jumpsuits are prominent, one of the upcoming season’s trends, presented in tweed or adorned with the Chanel logo. The runway also featured classic suits, checkered and striped prints, alongside primary colors like blue and red or classic black and white. The presence of Maison ambassadors like Pharrell Williams, Lily-Rose Depp, Marion Cotillard, Caroline de Maigret, and Phoebe Tonkin made the show even more special, along with other famous figures like actresses Ella Balinska and Arden Cho, actor Andrés Velencoso, and musician Nile Rodgers, who performed with CHIC, including a special appearance by Pharrell for a rendition of the hit ‘Get Lucky’. But what’s Chanel’s connection with America? Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel had a strong link with the country, receiving an invitation in 1931 to Hollywood, where she went with her friend Misia Sert and returned for a second time in 1954. In 1957, Coco Chanel received the prestigious Neiman Marcus Award. Furthermore, Coco was the first to reinvent the cruise look, a collection designed for beach life, which she herself adored. Years later, former creative director Karl Lagerfeld chose Miami as the destination to present the Chanel Cruise 2008-2009 collection, establishing a special relationship with the city. This intertwines American fashion and culture with French elegance and style, creating a unique and refined mix, just like the Chanel Cruise 2023 collection. Stay tuned!
